Heart Prep for Sunday, January 13th, 2019

The text this week is Luke 3:21-38, where Jesus is baptized and his genealogy presented and we see that he is both Son of God and Son of Man. The worship will celebrate his faithfulness to generation after generation, and the visual theme is a lone tree, signifying both Jesus’ family tree and the fact that he alone is able to save.

Worship;

Psalm 89:1-8 I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. 2For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” 3You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: 4‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah 5Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! 6For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, 7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? 8O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you?

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms – Hymn #354

Scripture for Meditation:

Isaiah 11:1-3 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2  And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. 3And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.

Isaiah 42:1-4 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. 2He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; 3a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. 4He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law.

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
