Bob’s Harvey Update #3
August 25, 2017, 5:00 p.m.
Quick update this evening. Not too much has changed. Harvey is about twelve hours from coming ashore near Port Aransas, and has picked up a little strength. Its (his?) behavior after landfall continue to look troubling.
According to Eric Berger, the best computer models are coming into agreement that Harvey is going to linger on the Texas Gulf Coast for a l-o-o-o-ng time. Some predict major rain through next Friday! So compelling is this outlook that Eric Berger’s first three key takeaways are (1) A very serious flooding situation is coming. (2) A very serious flooding situation is coming. (3) A very serious flooding situation is coming.
However, I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that the worst of this (contrary to what my weather app says) will not kick in until Sunday afternoon or Monday. I’m thinking that Houston’s rain bands may not intensify much until the center of Harvey begins to move this way, and the official forecast has Harvey wandering around the Corpus Christi area until Monday.
So there is still a possibility of church on Sunday. If things begin to flood, we’ll call church off tomorrow. But if they don’t we’ll plan on church on Sunday and only call off if we find we have to.
Note, however, that we have already called off the Pizza Lunch and Slovakia Update. This event has been rescheduled for September 3rd.
More in the morning.
