The message this week is about the power of Jesus to rescue. We will look at four brief accounts of Jesus’ power and the astonishment he caused. The worship theme is his presence in the storm, and the visual theme is (you guessed the it) storms.

God Moves in a Mysterious Way
Psalm 107:23-31 Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; 24they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep. 25For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. 26They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; 27they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end. 28Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 29He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. 31Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Jesus Lover of My Soul – Hymn #466
Matthew 8:23-27 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
Psalm 3:3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
Psalm 56:8 You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?
Psalm 30:5 Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 43:1-2 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.
Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
