Heart Prep for Palm Sunday, March 20th, 2016

The text for this week is Psalm 118, which ends with the familiar “Palm Sunday” phrases of “Save Us!” (“Hosanna”) and “Blessed is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord.” Our worship will be focused on the Triumphal Entry, especially the cry of “Hosanna!” The visual theme will be the Triumphal Entry, palms and Jewish festivals.

Prelude:
Hail to the Lord’s Anointed – Indelible Grace (Worship Team)

Worship Set:

Psalm 24:7-10 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty,
the LORD, mighty in battle! 9Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Hosanna (Praise is Rising) – Paul Baloche

Hosanna Medley (All Glory Laud and Honor – #173, Hosanna, Loud Hosanna – #174)

Psalm 118:1-15 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 2Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” 3Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”4Let those who fear the LORD say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” 5Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free. 6The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? 7The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. 8It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. 9It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

10All nations surrounded me; in the name of the LORD I cut them off! 11They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side; in the name of the LORD I cut them off!
12They surrounded me like bees; they went out like a fire among thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off! 13I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the LORD helped me. 14The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. 15Glad songs of salvation are in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the LORD does valiantly,
16the right hand of the LORD exalts, the right hand of the LORD does valiantly!” 17I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD. 18The LORD has disciplined me severely, but he has not given me over to death.

Ride On to Die Medley (Ride on to Die mixed with Ride On, Ride on in Majesty)

Mark 11:1-10 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”

Save Us O Lord Our God (No YouTube video for this one)

Psalm 118:19-29 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the LORD. 20This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it. 21I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. 22The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 23This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.25Save us, we pray, O LORD! O LORD, we pray, give us success! 26Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We bless you from the house of the LORD. 27The LORD is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar! 28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. 29Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
