Heart Prep for Sunday, November 22nd, 2015

The text this week is Philippians 4:4-9, and the big idea is that we fight anxiety by presenting our needs to God and practicing Thanksgiving. The worship theme is Thanksgiving and the visual theme is giving thanks at the foot of the cross.

We Gather Together – Hymn #561

Good to Me

Psalm 30:4-12 Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. 5For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. 6As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” 7By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. 8To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: 9“What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? 10Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD, be my helper!” 11You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, 12that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart – Hymn #562
For the Beauty of the Earth – Hymn #560

Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
