Heart Prep for Sunday, February 8th, 2015

The text for this week is James 1:19-27, in which James encourages us to be doers of God’s word and not merely hearers. The Worship theme will be the Word of God and its impact on our lives.

The visual theme is based on James’ illustration of a man looking intently at himself in a mirror.

Carry Your Love

Laden with Guilt

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hymn Medley:
Standing on the Promises of God – Hymn #271 (verses 2,3,4)
O Word of God Incarnate – Hymn #269 (all 4)
How Firm a Foundation – Hymn #275 (verse 1,4)

Psalm 119:105-112 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. 106I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules. 107I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word! 108Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules. 109I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law. 110The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts. 111Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart. 112I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.

Lord, Teach Me to Pray – and so is this

James 1:21-25 (DSV) Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and overflowing evil, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his own face in a mirror, 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the one who looks into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, will be blessed in what he does.
