Heart Prep for Sunday, January 25th, 2015

The text for this week is James 1:5-11, in which James promises that God will give us wisdom when we ask in faith.

The visual theme is ‘the grass withers,’ which is how James describes the fate of the rich man.

The worship theme is the wisdom of God. Many of our favorite worship songs mention this as one aspect of God’s character.

I Sing the Mighty Pow’r of God

Psalm 36:5-9 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. 7How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Your Steadfast Love

Psalm 107:43 Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.

God of Grace and God of Glory

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Acts 17:24-25″The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
