Heart Prep for Sunday, September 8, 2013

The text this week is Matthew 5:38-38, where Jesus teaches us to turn the other cheek, go the second mile and love our enemies.

Our worship will focus on God’s perfection in all things, especially his perfection in providing for us.

Immortal, Invisible

He’s Always Been Faithful to Me

2 Corinthians 12:7-9 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Matthew 5:43-45,48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. . . . 48You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Glory Will Cover the Earth

1 Peter 2:21-24 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

The Power of the Cross

What Wondrous Love is This?

Deuteronomy 32:1-4 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth. 2May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. 3For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! 4“The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.
