A Mini Missions Trip
With Galveston Urban Ministries
Parents and Teens:
Trinity’s young people have been invited to participate in a short-term Missions opportunity with Galveston Urban Ministries (www.galvestonurbanministries.org) in Galveston, Texas. GUM is a faith-based organization that provides community development and support services to the needy population of Galveston Island. Our group will be assisting the GUM staff with building renovations, an afternoon kids club and the support of a local soup kitchen. Here are the details:
Registration: begins on Sunday, June 30th.
Project Dates: July 22-25 (Monday – Thursday).
Participants DO NOT need to come all four days, but at least two days are preferred.
Participants: Teens, young adults, not-so-young adults, parents, retirees, you name it!!
We will need both adult and youth energy to make this project effective and enjoyable.
Times: Monday – Wednesday: Depart Trinity Fellowship at 7:15 a.m. and return about 5:00 p.m.
We will be doing renovations in the morning, Soup Kitchen work at noon,
and a Kid’s Club in the afternoon.
Thursday – Depart Trinity Fellowship at 7:15 and return at 9:00 p.m.
We will continue renovations in the morning, take a “Other Side of Galveston” tour in the afternoon, and then families are invited to join the group for fun and games at Galveston Island State park from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Cost: Like any missions project, there is a cost. The base cost set by Galveston Urban Ministries is $15.00/person, per day. This helps to cover the ministry’s operating expenses year round. In addition to this cost, we must add a fee to help pay for gasoline and for VBS materials and craft supplies. Therefore, we have set the price for this mission’s trip in this way:
The first participant in a family: $25.00/day
The second participant in a family: $20.00/day
The third and subsequent participants in a family: $15.00/day
Participants can either earn or raise these funds. Donations are tax deductible if they are contributed to the Trinity Fellowship fund for the “Galveston Urban Ministries Project”.
A limited amount of scholarship money is available for youth participants. Contact Gail DeGray for details (gsdegray (at) gmail.com or 281-797-8932)
Other Details:
Participants will need to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle each day.
Volunteers are needed to help prepare craft activities in advance.
