Heart Prep for Sunday, September 23rd

The text for this week is 1st Peter 3:7. This is Peter’s one verse of exhortation to husbands. Next week we will study 1st Peter 3:1-6, which is his word to wives, but I wanted to address husbands first.

The worship theme is ‘As Christ Loved the Church.” This is obviously from Ephesians 5:25-27, and we will use that text in worship, but the focus is that we are loved, by God, through Christ, with the same kind of deep knowledge that husbands are to learn in loving their wives.

The visual theme is people walking through life holding hands – a fitting image for the husband’s call in this passage.

Ephesians 5:25-30 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.
