While I am in Slovakia I will be leading daily devotions for the team. We will be posting these each day so that you can be thinking and praying about the same material.
Day 7: Kind and Good
My little granddaughters, Elaine and Hope, already have a pretty good idea about a hero: he is a good guy; the other is a bad guy. In the same way, we think of a hero as someone who is both good and kind. Read the story of David and Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:1-13). How does the hero show kindness?
One of my favorite Hebrew words is ‘chesed.’ This is God’s covenant love, his faithfulness and mercy. But it is often translated ‘loving kindness’ or ‘kindness.’ Read the following verses and describe how the idea of ‘kindness’ fits:
Genesis 24:12;
Deuteronomy 5:10;
Ruth 2:20;
Psalm 13:5;
Psalm 23:6
The New Testament reinforces this truth. What is the purpose of God’s kindness in Romans 2:20? What is its purpose in Ephesians 2:6-7 and Titus 3:4-6.
Kindness is one of the hero-attributes of God that we should imitate. Consider Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Corinthians 6:3-6 and Colossians 3:12. What are some practical ways you can ‘clothe yourself’ in kindness?
