While I am in Slovakia I will be leading daily devotions for the team. We will be posting these each day so that you can be thinking and praying about the same material.
Day 5: Wise (or omniscient)
Several team members identified wisdom as a key character quality of a hero. In The Lord of the Rings, for example, almost all the important good guys are accounted wise: Gandalf, Aragorn, and even Frodo. In the same way Scripture, especially the book of Proverbs, exalts the wise. But God is accounted wisest of all.
Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.” The word ‘understanding,’ implies a deep knowledge that is both relational and results in right action – which is a pretty good definition of wisdom.
Read Isaiah 55:6-11. What characteristics of God’s thinking are revealed in this passage? How does God communicate his knowledge? Is he good at it?
God’s knowledge is always personal. Read Psalm 139:1-6. What do you think about the fact that God knows all of your thoughts, words and deeds before you even have them?
Finally, read Isaiah 29:13-16. Have you ever fallen into the trap of thinking you know better than God? Give a specific example? How does God deal with this kind of thinking?
