While the group is in Slovakia, I’m going to be blogging their daily devotions. I hope this will allow all of us to be thinking and praying some of the same things they are. Todd has prepared devotions for his half of the trip from Philippians.
Philippians 2:12-18. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
Paul wants them to work out their salvation with fear and trembling. They were to put into practice “work out” what God had already done in them. They were to live out their salvation. They were to live selflessly and they were supposed to put the interests of others ahead of their own.
Fear=terror, fright, and alarm. Trembling=shaking in fear. Why fear and trembling?
How can we succeed in living out our salvation? How can we (this team) be successful? What happens when we let God have complete control of us?
Are we shining, are we being a light for Him? Can we become sinless?
Take the things you say and do seriously. Be fearful
Extra for quiet time:
Romans 6:12-14, do not LET sin rule over you. You have a choice.
What is going on in your life that you are grumbling about?
Is there someone in your life that you need to make peace with?
Read 1 John 1:5-2:2.
