25 Promises: Deuteronomy 31:6

Twenty-Five Promises

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

The most common command, by far, in Scripture is “do not be afraid.” The most common promise in Scripture (as we saw yesterday) is “I will be with you.” Frequently, as here, the most common command is followed the most common promise.

Let me give you just a little white space, and you think about that:

Now turn it into a prayer:

“Lord, you  have said ‘Do not be afraid.’ Yet I . . . ”

“Lord, you have promised “I will be with you.’  And I . . . ”

Now turn the prayer around and pray it for someone else you know to be struggling with fear or uncertainty or difficult circumstances or weariness or loneliness or grief.
