Our devotional in Paul’s prayers and prayer reports continues:
Philippians 1:9-11 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God.
This is one of Paul’s greatest prayer reports. He tells the Philippians that he is praying their love would abound, but not a thoughtless love or a merely emotional love, but one that operates more and more out of knowledge of God and depth of insight into his ways. Filled with such love and insight, they will then be able to discern the best course of action in every circumstance, so that they will be pure and blameless, not having run off the road into sin, but on the right track every day until Christ comes. As they go through life this way they will get filled up with righteousness, something that can only happen because of Jesus, and through his provision, and which thus glorifies God.
Wow! Do you pray this for others? Do you pray this for yourself!
Hate to sound like a broken record, but Come Down, O Love Divine fits real well with this too. Maybe you can pray it for someone else.
