Paul’s Prayers: Romans 15:5-6

Our devotional in Paul’s prayers and prayer reports continues!

Romans 15:5-6 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is an actual prayer, as opposed to a prayer report. Paul presumes that God gives endurance and encouragement. He prays that God would also give unity. One implication is that unity takes endurance and encouragement that can only come from God. A second is that unity comes as y’all (individually but also as a group) follow Christ Jesus. A third is that unity is seen when ‘with one heart and mouth’ y’all glorify God.

This is rich stuff: who do you need to pray this for today? What family? What group within the church? What other groups? What individuals?

A Kieth and Kristyn Getty song we sang for Easter seems to capture this: Come People of the Risen King

Ran into an interesting Newsboys song while pursuing this topic: Hallelujah
