Heart Prep for Sunday (June 5, 2011)

This week we will be studying ‘The Fruit of the Spirit in Relationships.’

The actual text is very short: Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

For heart preparation, I recommend reading ‘In Memory of L.H.W’ by Dorothy Canfield Fisher. I originally read this story in The Book of Virtues (Amazon Link) but it is in public domain. I may blog the whole story at some point, but for now here are links to it as a pdf at a school site and on Google Books. The story, which the author says depicts a real person, has multiple illustrations of the Fruit of the Spirit in Lem Warren’s life. I’l be quoting a couple of paragraphs on Sunday, but it is definitely worth the fifteen minute read.

Sunday is also communion, and one block of our worship will be focused that direction. Here are links to some Youtube videos of the songs we’ll be singing.

Shine, Jesus, Shine

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

Jesus, Lover of My Soul

Jesus, I am Resting, Resting

We’re also doing “I Boast No More” but I didn’t find any versions that were really worth listening to. I may try to do a quick video before Sunday – if i do I’ll post a link.

Finally, we’re also doing ‘I Need Thee Every Hour’ to the Jonathan Kittle tune and the song ‘Holy Spirit Fill Me’ that I believe was written by Emily and Bethany Berreth.
